Tiny Monsters in Boxes – Kids Workshop in Brighton

Create a tiny handmade monster and a cosy little home to keep it in! In this fun and imaginative workshop, young makers aged 8+ will design, make and decorate their own miniature felt creature before creating a matchbox-style home especially for it.

Will your monster be friendly, funny, sleepy or a little bit scary? Perhaps it has three eyes, enormous ears, wonky teeth, colourful spots or even a tail. There are no rules about what a monster should look like, so children can let their imaginations take over and create a character that is completely their own.

Our experienced Pretty Neat tutors will guide children through simple, beginner-friendly felt-making techniques, including cutting shapes, basic stitching and adding decorative details. Along the way, we’ll encourage them to experiment with colours, textures and character ideas while developing confidence with their new skills.

Once their little monster is complete, they’ll turn their attention to its home, decorating a matchbox-style keepsake to create the perfect place for their new character to live. They might even decide on a name and a little story for their monster!

The session is relaxed and hands-on, with plenty of opportunity for individual creativity. It’s a lovely way to practise fine motor skills, learn some simple sewing techniques and enjoy making something from start to finish.

Each child leaves with their own miniature felt monster tucked safely inside its decorated matchbox home — a unique little keepsake to treasure.

All materials are included, along with drinks and snacks from the gallery.

If you have food preferences or accessibility needs, please tell us in advance so we can make your visit as smooth as possible.

All workshops are beginner-friendly unless stated otherwise, and we provide all the materials you need. Adult sessions are for ages 16+, teen classes for ages 11–16, and family workshops for ages 7+ with an accompanying adult. Everything you create is yours to take home.
