Art of Suminagashi Marbling: Creative Play Session for Adults

Discover the mesmerising art of Suminagashi, the traditional Japanese technique of floating ink on water to create beautiful marbled patterns.

In this relaxed 2 hour creative play session, you’ll learn how to create delicate swirling designs by gently dropping ink onto the surface of water and guiding the patterns into unique shapes. Each print is completely one of a kind, making the process as magical as the finished results.

Experiment with different effects, create a collection of marbled papers, and discover how this centuries-old technique combines creativity, mindfulness and a little bit of unpredictability.

You’ll learn how to:

• Create floating ink patterns on water
• Manipulate swirls and organic designs
• Transfer marbled patterns onto paper
• Experiment with different effects and compositions
• Produce unique prints that can be used in future creative projects

You’ll take home:

A selection of your own Suminagashi marbled papers, perfect for framing, card making, bookbinding, collage or other creative projects.

This session is suitable for complete beginners and anyone who enjoys experimenting with colour, pattern and process.

All workshops are beginner-friendly unless stated otherwise, and we provide all the materials you need. Adult sessions are for ages 16+, teen classes for ages 11–16, and family workshops for ages 7+ with an accompanying adult. Everything you create is yours to take home.
